"The virus is still out there threatening not only our health and that of our loved ones, but also our economic model, since a rebound in cases could pose a new blow for the tourism sector," they warn.

The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the seven mayors of the island have sent a message to the population, reminding the population of the need to continue to “be extremely concerned and not lower our guard” in the face of Covid-19. For this reason, this Tuesday they have agreed to launch "different awareness actions with the aim of keeping the population alert, because the threat of contagion is still very much alive."

In the case of Lanzarote, in the last day five new cases were confirmed, which are added to another 26 only so far in August.

"This battle is not over yet, so we must continue to insist on the use of a mask, hand hygiene and social distance as essential elements to stop the transmission of the virus," say the island's institutions.

Also recent case figures indicates that in Gran Canaria 95 percent of the new cases have occurred in people under 30 years of age and in Tenerife this percentage is 85 percent. A warning for younger people to be more alert, as it does affect them too.

“We cannot and should not relax or lower our guard. The virus is still out there, threatening not only our health and that of our loved ones, but also our economic model, since a rebound in cases could mean a new setback for the island's tourism sector, ”Corujo insisted.
