The strong wind affecting the island today has knocked down the Mirador del Río symbol, made of iron and located at the gates of the Tourist Centre.

The new CEO of the Tourist Centres, Benjamín Perdomo, considers the incident, which occurred in the early hours, “as faithful reflection of the total abandonment of César Manrique's main space work during the last decade by the previous management, who were more concerned with projects of relative interest than in caring for and attending to the true essence and rationale of the Centres ”.

The Cabildo emphasized that the popular and original image of a bird and a fish is the same as it looked since it was installed on a stone structure at the inauguration of the Mirador del Río in 1973.
